MOST CREATIVE VIDEO AWARD

 

This is a Special Award which is open only to shortlisted teams for Stage B, and the winning team of this Award will walk away with the exclusive prize of a MacBook Air!

 

You are free to decide what goes into the video but just be creative and follow the below guidelines.

 

Guidelines for the video clip:

  • It must be filmed during Stage B within the designated holding area
  • Please include a title for your creative video
  • It must not be more than 20 secs in duration
  • It must be taken in a landscape format
  • It has to be of High Definition (1080p)
  • Footage has to include an AirBlock drone (every team will be provided with only one AirBlock drone on that day for filming purpose)
  • File size to be no more than 100 MB
  • Singapore Computer Society (SCS) reserves the right to immediately disqualify any entry deemed obscene, defamatory, unlawful or otherwise inappropriate in nature or content in the context of Singapore
  • SCS shall have the right to use any or all of the materials submitted for publicity purposes

 

Judging Criteria:

  • Creativity (90%)
  • Popularity by Facebook "likes" (10%)

 

SUBMISSION OF VIDEO (open only to Stage B participants)

 

  • Pre-tertiary category (submission opens on 12 Sept and closes on the same day, 2359 hrs). 
  • Tertiary category (submission opens on 13 Sept and closes on the same day, 2359 hrs). 

 

Results will be announced during the Splash Awards – Drone Challenge finals on 28 October 2017.

INTRODUCTION OF AIRBLOCK

 

A newly launched drone by Makeblock, Airblock is the first modular drone that can be turned into a hovercraft, car and more! It does stunts and tasks through drag and drop programming.

CHALLENGE STRUCTURE

    STAGE A: DELIVERABLES
    • A structured abstract of the proposed idea of your solution (.doc/.docx/.pdf) of not more than 250 words. Write concisely and clearly. Your abstract should contain the following information:
      • • Name of Project: Provide a name for your proposed solution
      • • Theme selected: Choose a theme from the list provided
      • • Opportunity identified: What is the problem you are trying to solve with drones? Or what is the area of interest, gap or opportunity you are looking at? What are the reasons that you’re targeting this problem, gap or opportunity?
      • • Proposed idea and platform: What is the proposed solution to the identified problem/ opportunity? What are the objectives or goals of the solution? What are some proposed features or functionalities of your solution?
      • • Target audience: Who is the target audience of your solution? Be specific.
      • • Originality and value: What is new and innovative about your solution? What is the value generated for the target audience identified?
    • You may include no more than FIVE accompanying images to illustrate the features or functionalities of your solution. Images could be in forms of screenshots of the user interface, wireframes, infographics, use cases, etc. Be creative and your images should illustrate your proposed idea of your solution or application.
    • All files (which include the abstract and images) should not be more than 5MB in size.
    • A panel of judges will then select the top ideas in Stage A that will move on to Stage B. Stage A results will be released on the Drone Challenge website and Splash Awards Facebook Page.

    STAGE B: DELIVERABLES
    • All Stage B teams are to attend the compulsory workshop for drone navigation. During the workshop, you will get hands on with the drone and familiarise yourself on how to maneuver – hover, landing, pitch, yaw, roll and thrust.
    • After Stage B workshop, the Stage B judging will commence. Your team must navigate the constructed obstacle course in the fastest time.
    • Results will be announced immediately after the Stage B judging and released on the Splash Awards website and Splash Awards Facebook Page.
  • STAGE C: DELIVERABLES
    • a) Execution Stage – Finalists are required to programme and navigate the Airblock drone through an obstacle course which will be disclosed only at the Finals on 28 October.
    • b) Challenge and Answer Segment – There will be a panel of judges who will pose questions based on the theme chosen for Stage A proposal where you proposed a solution to a real life problem as to how drones can be applied to solve real life problems.

  • Ideas submitted must be original/unique and NOT a solution that is already available in the industry. Entries that replicate any applied solution that are already existing will be at a serious disadvantage during the judging process.

Students matriculated in  Local or International Institute of Higher Learning (IHL), Junior Colleges, Institute of Technical Education (ITE), Secondary Schools or equivalent educational institutions recognized by the organizers are eligible to compete in this challenge.

ELIGIBILITY
  • Each team comprises a maximum of 3 students from the same school, college or institution.
  • Teams must appoint a Mentor (Full or Part-Time Teacher / Lecturer) from their school, college or institution who:
    — is able to provide guidance or assistance and
    — is the Point of Contact throughout the Splash Awards
