How to prevent data leakage from your smartphone and tablet pc

While the usage of smart phone and tablet pc increasing, some people do not realize that smart phone and tablet pc are not just telephone or entertainment devices.

 

Smart phone and tablet pc are real computers, it has the similar features like notebook and pc although the dimension and the power might be less powerful than notebook and pc. However, we can say that smart phone and tablet pc are more complicated than pc and notebook because smart phone and some tablet pcs have the additional ability like what the handphone does.

 

Using smart phone and tablet pc are convenient and the popular trend now is that there are more people keep and use smart phone and tablet pc to store their confidential (business and personal) information on the smart phone and tablet pc. The rule of thumb is: as long as the device has the internet connection, the internet threat is real.

 

 

Smart phone and tablet pc have the same internet threat like pc and notebook.Malware which have been found and designed to target smart phone and tablet pc are getting more and more. The question is, how to prevent and minimize the data leakage on smart phone and tablet pc?

 

Below is some tips to prevent and minimize the data leakage on your smart phone and tablet pc:

 

For iOS users:

  1. 1.Never do the jailbreak of your iphone and ipad. Jailbreaking the iphone and ipad will open many vulnerabilities on your devices.
  2. 2.Be aware to choose and install trusted applications. Choose the application from the trusted resources. Install the application(s) as needed. Do not just install the application(s) because it is free.
  3. The more applications you install on iphone or ipad, the more vulnerable your device will be. Although apple always do some checking and verification of every application before it is posted on app store, that doesn't mean that the software application is 100% secure without any bugs and vulnerabilities.
  4. 3.Update your software applications regularly.
  5. 4.Do not put any confidential/sensitive data on your iphone or ipad.
  6. 5.Use the strong password to protect your iphone or ipad.
  7. 6.Update the operating system (iOS) regularly.
  8. 7.If you need to access internet from your smart phone/tablet via WiFi, make sure you really know who is the wireless provider. Don't just connect to it especially if there is no password protecting  their Wifi access. Free wireless access doesn't mean always safe.
